Post subject: New RPG campaign - clever name to come later
PostPosted: Thu Jul 28, 2011 11:31 pm
Assuming that it doesn't clash with anyone else's plans, and that I can get my stuff together in time (Class of Heroes is more time-consuming than you'd think) - basically, barring any reason not to, I'll be starting a short fantasy campaign next Thursday (Aug 4th). It'll be based on the same D20 variant as Altair-the-Vexed's drop-in dungeons (pregenerated characters are available), and it will run on alternate Thursdays.

If you're interested, let me know here please.

I'm planning to get back to running the Dreaded Dungeons of Doom Drop-in game soon... but when exactly, I haven't firmed up (my company have scuppered my 11th August plans, for a start).

I should have said here - I'll be up for this. Made a viscious little dwarf woman.

Depending on your actions and the speed of progress, I'm guessing maybe 10-20 sessions?

I was assuming that pretty much everyone would be - it's hard to roll up a character when the ruleset hasn't yet been released.

UPDATE:

Having successfully defeated Macha the Ill Wind and killed the man responsible for unsealing it, you have been informed that there are several other demons sealed elsewhere - other towns with patron spirits will likely contain the other sealed demons.

If I recall correctly, you all have 835xp each (you need 2000 to reach level 2, so 1165xp to go), gained the following treasure between you:

1x Least Soul Gem
1200gp in cash and gemstones
Chainmail
2x Chainshirt
2x longsword
Bastard Sword
Details of the unsealing ritual
1x crude small shortbow
2x crude small spear
3x crude small dagger
3x crude small shortsword
(the crude items are usable but essentially worthless when selling them)

Soul Gems:
Within one round of killing a creature, you can attempt a Will Save (DC 15+ creature's HD) - success will force the creature's essence into the gem. Depending on the strength of the essence, charged gems provide "craft points" that may be used to create magic items. As part of their creation, soul gems are warded so that human, elf, halfling and dwarf souls may not enter the gem.

You currently have an empty Least Soul Gem. If you had filled it with a fairly powerful creature (like Macha), you would have had enough craft points to create a magic item worth up to 400gp. Examples of such items include:
A wand that can cast a 1st-level spell 10 times before it becomes empty
A magic item that can cast a 1st-level spell once a day, and recharges overnight (e.g. a bow that can shoot a Magic Missile once a day, or a holy symbol that can cast Cure Light Wounds)
A scroll of any spell you know (single use)
A potion of any spell you know (single use)
Filling the gem with less powerful creatures (like the Geebas) would offer fewer craft points.

With enough money, you can pay a handy artificer to create some of these items for you - but that will take time. There are no such artificers in Chorrol (the town where you are right now).

Finally, a map of the world. I'll be bringing a papery version, but I've got a copy online here. Note that most towns are a few days' travel away from each other, so rations and other items will be useful unless you plan to starve.

If you want to buy anything, let me know here. For a list of the kind of gear you can get and their prices, see the Equipment section of the Pathfinder SRD - there are a few differences between Pathfinder gear and stuff used in this game, but they're close enough to be getting along with.

As many potions or scrolls of healing as I can afford. At least one cure moderate as a preference, the rest can be cure lights. I'll work out the details and numbers in time for next session.

To start with, I wish to use my share of the loot to buy lamellar armour (from the six20 equipment list, sorry). I'll trade in my scale armour against it. By my reckoning that uses up 125 of my gold.

I want to keep the dagger that got stuck in my armour and pay a smith to make a pendant to hang it on (and suitably blunt it so I don't stab myself with it. Yes, a smith, not a <swears> jeweller. Let me know how much that'll be.

While that's being made, I'll go find an alchemist and get some more acid (2 flasks at 10gp each), a couple of alchemists fire (2 flasks at 20gp each), a couple of smokesticks (2 sticks at 20gp each).
At straight up cost price, that should total 100 gold coins.
I'll keep some cash back for a pony or riding dog, depending on what the lanky <swears> rest of the party want to do.

Assuming the chainshirts and longswords belonged to the dead town guard, I think we should get our charismatic <swears> elf bint to hand them back in exchange for some credit / discounts.
Or de Ah haff to dee it mahsen, wi mah hagglin skills, eh?

Checking the notes that I'd forgotten to bring yesterday, the codex contained the details of rituals that would break the various seals restraining the demons.

Lewt & expees - 23/11

Everyone involved in last night's minor scuffle gains 1052xp.

Loot gained (assuming you got there before the guard)
1x Masterwork War Axe
1x Masterwork Heavy Steel Shield
1x Masterwork Scale Mail
1x Magic Rod (Burning Hands, 3/day)

453 gold, 5 silver and 36 copper coins
About a dozen crappy clubs & shortspears

The camp (if you raid that too) contains a bunch of tents, bedrolls and similar assorted paraphenalia. Given that it's just lying around outside and you don't have any visible means of transporting it all anywhere else for trade, nobody's going to offer you money for any of it - but if there's anything there you want, you could probably nab it.

Additionally, since you have a clever person or two in the party, I'll point out that there were no ritual texts on any of the bodies.
