You spend all the time you like in the field, mate - but no, it makes no difference.

I'm not sure why Monty treats me like his pet, When I joined the CPI he promised me the chance to expand my horizons and venture into the unknown, instead I get to play fetch with data I don't really understand.

There is a complete lack of action and now some other Counter Terrorist Organization has come in and rounded every member of the CPI up and thrown us into a small room in and left us there to stew, Monty approached me and asked me to poke around the place and see if I could find out anything to do with the "Dinosaur incident".

Well I guess the chance to do some field work is better than my previous job of doing the filing, so I agreed to it and he handed me three items, first was the most curious a small piece of PCB with wires attached and a small blinking LED, apparently this thing could bypass the door locks in the building, interesting. The second, a small silver digital camera, looked like a standard model issued to CPI employees, not so interesting. The third and final item was a small 1 Gigabyte memory stick, it contained a program Monty had worked on to automatically take interesting files from PCs. I pocketed the lot and watched as Monty ran interference with the officer guarding us.

I got up and tried Montys' card. I really shouldn't of been so surprised it worked but it did. So to business I guess, find the evidence room find and photograph some files on the dates of the incident and see if I could run his little program on one of the terminals.

I looked along the corridor, well turns out this wasn't going to be quite so tricky after all. The evidence room was approximately 20 feet away. I casually strolled down the corridor towards the room, I didn't want to see to full of purpose. I got to the door about to produce my "key card" when a yell of "Wait!" forced me to stop.

It was one of the local constabulary, a woman. Oh how I wished she wasn't going to cause me any trouble, I'm not really in the mood for a fight, much less fighting some harmless plod in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"What are you doing?" She asked. Her assertiveness took me by surprise slightly. "Um, requisitioning some evidence for debriefing the CPI officers down the hallway". I'm not the greatest liar in the world unfortunately for me this combined with the uncertain tone in my voice probably gave away the fact that I was being less than truthful.

Her response was to bark "Stop" at me and reach for her radio. I really couldn't have my cover blown this early into the operation and I couldn't really let Monty down at this stage, not on my first field assignment. I did the first thing that sprang to mind and took her radio away, yeah sure she tried to stop me but her punch lacked any direction or power, I avoided it with some ease. She ran off, screaming for her superior. She'd be back, with more officers. Time to find somewhere to lay low for a few minutes.

I decided to head into an unlocked room and lock it behind me. Luckily I'd run into an interrogation room, which meant I shouldn't be disturbed, on the other side of the coin there was two-way mirror and I had no idea who was behind it. Best act naturally, like I should belong here. I threw myself down in a chair, listening out for any noise that would indicate a thorough search for me. There didn't seem to be any noise so hopefully they weren't taking her story to seriously.

Time to check the observation room behind the two way mirror, you can never be to careful I guess. Empty. Good. I took a quick look around the interrogation room again, perhaps hitting the panic button would send them into enough of a frenzy they wouldn't notice a guy like me wandering around. I located and hit it pretty quickly. I left the room and moved with some speed towards the evidence room again. No interruptions this time, a quick beep and I was in.

Room seemed pretty well laid out. I moved over to the PC terminals, logged in quickly and slammed in the memory stick Monty had give me. The program automatically booted up and went to work. Great, time to go through the files on the dates in question.

Hm, either these police are terrible record keepers or it's kind of suspicious that the dates I'm interested in have no entries at all. Quickly checked on the progress of the program, nearly done. A name keeps cropping up though. Fulbert. I logged in to a second terminal and searched their records for the name. Clean. Another oddity. Not even a parking ticket, another bizarre turn of events. Well this is the CPI I guess, expect the unexpected.

The program finally finished, time to get out of here. I turned and exited the door. A shame I opened the door into an officers face.

"What are you doing 'ere?!" He cried startled. Well as much as I hate to fight, I was backed into a corner with fairly incriminating evidence, no real interest in killing the guy though. I hit him, he reached for his nightstick so I hit him again and he graciously decided to lose conciousness. I assisted him into the evidence room and went straight back to Monty.

I was briefly joined by other members of CPI, I had seen them about but didn't know them by name and wasn't particularly interested. I sized them up briefly, a meat head in army fatigues, a grease monkey and a man who even appeared less interesting than the previous two. What is the CPI recruiting these days? Monty even talked to them like they were field agents, pathetic.

I decided to keep myself to myself and wait for the "debriefing" to begin. Turns out I didn't know anything that they wanted to know, so I was let loose along with the other CPI members, I handed Monty the items I had procured, hopefully we'll get some useful information out of them. I also bothered to mention the name of Fulbert to him, he seemed to recognize the name but went no further. I wasn't going to press him, I wasn't interested.

Turns out everyone was heading back to HQ, so I hitched a lift with Monty's motley crew. Funny, traffic normally isn't this bad. One of the other guys checked on-line to see what was causing the hold up, the net was dead. Intriguing. The radio was working though and told us of a terrorist attack on the channel tunnel, didn't quite pick up the name. Defenders of Abraham? I'm all for spirituality and the like but killing in the name of any God is pretty wrong. Oh well, guess it's a job for the regular guys, not specialists like us.

I should probably do a quick write up of the last session, although Rupert was a little short on action what with the party being so spread out!

Anyway, I was just looking through Reaper's preview gallery and found a mini that put me in mind of Beastie:Image

Alastair has posted this elsewhere but the next session will be 18 December as he is out inspecting factories when the next session should have been. Check out his "ever changing schedule" thread for details.

Hi guys, need to get the opinion of people who might be able to manipulate the system better than I.

I'm looking for 3rd level to be my last level as an ordinary D20 modern hero as pretty much everyone has their cool bits now and I'd like to catch up, but I have a problem... This is the fact that I cannot seem to get around the minimum requirements for my "cool" class.

Just for clarification the requirements are: Combat Martial Arts, Defensive Martial Arts, Tumble 5+ ranks, Concentration 5+ ranks, WIS 13+ and BAB of 3+

As it stands I am a second level Strong Hero Which I think I picked before my new class was created.

According to my Character sheet I currently have two out of the five requirements in that my Wisdom is 14 and that I have the Combat Martial Arts feat. I only have two ranks in both Tumble and Concentrate (cross class skills), my BAB is only +2 and the only way to hit +3 is to take my next level in Strong Hero, which means I can't hit the ranks required this level.

Edit: Just to explain, taking levels in Tough Hero and Fast Hero uncross classes both Concentration and Tumble respectively.

I think the only way to now get to my awesome class is to take my next level in Strong Hero and then take my fourth in Tough then fifth in Fast which will allow me to get the BAB and skills I require, but I fear by then that I will largely become irrelevant because I will require about 5,000 experience just to get my first level in my cool class and God only knows what the rest of the party would be able to do by then.

Does anyone have any advice on getting around these issues?

Speak to Alistair, discuss what you want your "cool" to be and how he might blag it onto your character all be it watered down, but early.

Remember, he is the DM, he makes the rules.

Alastair is aware of what my cool is, you can't really water down my cool as is it it's not inherent like Magic nor can it be added on like a Mech, I effectively have to start all over again once I reach the point where I can access my cool and level up an entirely new class.
