We'll use your suggested frontage.
This will be five Shotte blokes on a 60mm frontage x 2 for a Shotte block.
Pike blokes on same bases but at ninety degrees.
Horses on 25mm front each.

Cool, Steve confused me with his 8 men musket units, which didn't seem to fit 5 s or 6's

Right I'm confused now. I have 2 10 man musket units, thats what was planned wasn't it? My pike units are 16 men square. Correct?
I'm happy to add a bit more if everyone else is.

Which bit's confusing you?
Musket unit should be 120mm x 40mm with 10 or 12 figs on. Ignore Steve's thing about 8 - last I heard he's not read the rules ;)

ok my bases are 20mm square. so i gotta do 12 muskets for each to achieve that. My pike base per unit is 80mm x 80mm is that correct?

Ok I have reread this and I have followed the book and Paul has matched up to his gaming group. I need to paint a couple of muskets for my sleeves but ultimately it doesn't matter. Obviously following Pauls scheme saves models so is recommended. I may do on my next lot.

Sorry all. Was going by what the battalia box suggested for a small starting force. Will add a few extra to top up

12 pike with command
2 units of 10 musketeers

Yes. It won't be a particularly long game, but it'll give you a flavour. If two of you fielded that each that would give more chance to see more mechanics over a more prolonged fight.
I realise that's the box set make-up rather than your choice of army structure, but in terms of developing your list, you'd need a fairly specialist situation to see more than one unit of fire-locks deployed; like some sort of siege, breaching assault, or baggage train scenario. You'll see plenty games without any of them, so they won't need much further work. The cavalry will probably need to expand the most, proportionally. Cavalry will generally brigade together and form on the flanks. With just one unit, the loser risks having uncontested cavalry on their flanks and this is generally very bad. So if you happen to get time to do another unit, I'd do 6 more cavalry. In fact I'd be tempted to do them ahead of the firelocks, both in terms of usefulness and learning the core rules/unit roles first.

12 pike with command
2 units of 10 musketeers
12 cavalry

I'm happy with the extra cavalry as I'm sure sir Thomas is :-)

I would would like to field 6 firelocks still though as I have done them :-) :-)

And painting stuff myself is like the ten tasks if tantillon.

Still having problems with my horses necks. Have tried filing and cutting off the locating studs but still have gaps
