Turn 7.

Brutal, withering fire thudded into the LMG squad from the last remaining German MMG team, 3 of the Russian soldiers crashing into the dirt, a moral test taken and made. With no artillery bombardment for the second successive turn, the remaining 'Das Reich' troops had steadied themselves somewhat.

However, the retaliation was swift and the SS men were soon forced into cover as salvo after salvo spewed up the dirt around them. The Medic flung himself behind a shattered wall, a graze in his shoulder his only discomfort (1 PM on him after central Main St. LMG squad fires at him). The Russian MMG team failed in it's attempts to destroy the last German team as did the Mortar team which followed suit. The NKVD attempted to charge the Medic but due to a horrendous amount of casualties inflicted upon them, they faltered at the crucial moment allowing the Medic to slink away ever further into the ruins of Minsk. His parting shot from his pistol flying harmlessly over the Red Army killers heads.

The Observer and SS Lieutenant traded shots, 1 PM on each the sum total of damage done. At the sound of the advancing BT-7 the SS began to pull further back, the Russian Lieutenant shouting curses and firing wildly at the invaders. Still the German Mortar team sat, shell-shocked, unable to move from there current positions.

On a failed rallying attempt, the Battle For Minsk ended.

So, what does all this carnage mean I hear you all ask? Well, it means that the Battle For Minsk ended in a :

Draw!

Yes, due to the game resulting on who destroyed the most of it's opponents units, a tie of 4 units each was the result.

'Das Reich' kills - 2 LMG Squads, Commissar + Retinue, Howitzer team.

Soviet 161st Rifle Division kills - 2 SS Squads, 1 MMG team, Panzer III.

Up until Turn 6 many of you sharp-eyed readers of the battle report will realize the SS were actually winning 4:1. Such is how the game could swing so dramatically the other way.

That is the first part of Army Group Centre's and the mighty Red Army's participation in our Operation Barbarossa campaign. We will be returning to them soon, as we will be returning to Minsk at some point I expect  . Next stop is the North, where the fighting will be just as brutal I expect.

Nice work Gazza. Great times had. See if I can save as many of those troops that are falling back out of Minsk in the next campaign.

Excellent write up! I thought the SS were in for a kicking by the end but a hard and well fought draw. Great going by both!
