So I have been writing a few campaigns (In Bolt action) consisting of multiple scenarios, at this time I have been writing them as we go along thus the players are not sure whats coming and I can in turn react to results but the other option is to write the entire campaign before any scenario is played. both have advantages and disadvantages, being written as you go can result in a more balanced over all campaign plus its suggested that its more realistic. The other gives the player a chance to better plan and see what he faces and battle effects on later scenarios.
Obviously the actual game system isn't important
But which type of campaign system would you or do you think you would prefer?

If people have other interesting ideas or have in the past done a different method please post here as I am very interested.

I think it's nice to know what your working towards to a certain point (this allows you to gather your forces for an epic end of campaign battle) but to be unaware of the scenarios/missions that fill the middle between start and finish also adds a lot as well. Bit of both gets my vote.

I think written as you go so each can then be influenced by the previous outcome

Yeh written as you go along for me - having a skeleton map of missions ahead but not specifics can be good though.

Yeah Gazza and I do that. We meet up after a campaign and chuck ideas around and decide on number of scenarios and the basic contents of them.

Well jack and Adam are finishing their first one, gazza and I are on our second, Adam and jack have another one in the pipe like, gazza and Adam have one planned. So there's a few knocking about Steve. What do you think the battle reports were about lots of love.

The Italy campaign as an example is a great one for multiple scenarios. The current games played Im sure could fir into the start of the campaign. Certainly the one Jack and I played last Friday would meet the the Volturno Line scenario setting. The Allies needed to secure river crossings without armour support as it had been bogged down by poor weather conditions. The Air Strike was delayed. The Allies secured their objective but at a cost. German force retreating to next line with casaulty results that would effect combat strength at next battle. Something like units lost in this battle their replacement units are now in delayed reserve struggling to get to the front line. Just an idea really.

Your more than welcome to take over the Italian campaign writing if you like mike, I was only doing it to give Adam and jack some more in depth games. I have my hands full with eastern front really and it would be interesting for me to see what you do.

I'd be delighted to do so, as it would give me the kick up the backside I need to get painting. I look forward to a battle on the Eastern Front soon.
Ill get to work on that straight away and post my proposals on the Italy thread. Stand by lads....

A sound idea. It means each campaign gets everyone's full attention rather than a splitting of interests.
