Obviously Gazza and I have been doing reports on our bolt action campaigns, we are looking to improve them as much as we possible can. Has anyone got suggestions as to how we could improve or would people like to see more of a certain thing. Also what you like would be helpful, cheers all.

Initial setup write-ups are great. Bang on.
I've always been a fan of removing the dice rolls from write-ups (unless its something notable like rolling FUBAR) and writing them as the fighting would be seen from the perspective of a first or third party to the action.

You can always include a dice/turn orientated writeup alongside so people can see exactly what went down in those terms.

Themes and styles you could try : propaganda reports, civilian tales of what they saw/witnessed, radio chatter from the commander and his units, published memoirs similar to the books you guys often read, war college write ups of brilliant manoeuvres, news reports or as a screen play/movie script.

None of those are easy by any means. That few turn report I did took a while but was well worth it even just for my own fun

That's great, cheers for the feed back and ideas, some of which we have been looking at. Agree about the dice. This is exactly the kind of feed back I'm after. Anybody else? Even minor stuff. Obviously we are doing this for our own fun but we do hope you all enjoy reading them as that is just as much a target.

I prefer it when the Russians win. Do you think that you could possibly make this happen? :lots of love:

I've been back to the "falling back to Riga" report for inspiration.

Firstly i'd like to point out how much I enjoy the reports, Love the pics, feel they really help to flesh out the mental story. You asked for feedback for improvement I would say that the one thing I found with it, it lacked a clear description of the victory conditions and the aims of the game (at least on the same thread?) so I wasn't up to speed on what each player was trying to achieve (as a non WWII enthusiast I don't know the back story) I would also prefer both army lists posted at the beginning of the report so I had a better mental picture of what the losses meant to each army.

But as I said, keep up the good work, love the threads :)

An overview of the mission/scenario complete with victory conditions, any house-rules in play, a brief (as factual as we can be) background to the upcoming battle plus Army Lists are all good points Dave and from now on we hope that the threads have a more logical flow to them.

http://www.boltaction.net/2015/03/aar-g ... s.html?m=1 Quite enjoyed this battle report. For a quick skirmish game it's bang on. It's a bit of extra work but loved the added effects on some of the pictures.
