Good to see you back on the forums man! It's bee a long time.

I've played Descent a couple of time and it's a pretty good game. It seems to take a lot of work from the "DM" in terms of setting up and controlling all the monsters, but as a player it's a lot of fun trying to keep everybody alive while also getting the treasures and hopefully completing the story. It's pretty highly rated over at Board Game Geek too.

Hullo Khon! Good to see you. :)

Yeah, Descent is pretty decent, though I do agree with Pete on the problem of it being a lot of work for the person running it. However, if you're used to DMing, it's not too different.

It's not really an unwrap-and-play game, it requires time to sit down, read the rules and familiarise yourself with the different tokens and monsters before trying to play it for the first time.
That said, Ninja Pete tried to run it virtually straight out of the box, and didn't get on too badly. A few rules missed out here and there, and quite a lot of stress for him on the grounds that it was a lot more complicated than he thought, but we all had fun! ;)

Hello,

Karen and I can also give the game a thumbs up. Besides previous comments, I'd also add that the more players, the better the chance of surviving! :) . It also makes for a better game than with just two players.

All the best,

John & Karen.

Descent is good, once you get your head around it - the rules could be laid out in the manual a little better, and you definitely need to give it a read through before you play. That said, I've had fun with it, and I'm tempted to bring it in again.

Descent is about a bunch of foolish "adventurers" who wander blindly into a meat grinder while the DM (for want of a better epithet) grins eevilly and throws eevil trick after eevil ambush at them in an eevil manner.

Or at least, that's how it is for the DM. You're limited in how much eevil you can throw at the players, but it's always just enough to keep them worried. I haven't played it as a player yet, but everyone seemed to enjoy when they weren't getting chewed on by monsters.

The shortest way I can think of to describe it is thus:

As DM : It's dungeon keeper: the boardgame.
As player: It's a survival horror game.

Hello :) ,

If there are plans to run a game, I'd like to join in.

Thanks,

John.
