Hello wise people.

I'm off on my travels in the motorhome soon and I'd like ideas for a board game for me and the family.

There's me.
No 1 son - 12
No 2 son - 9
Wifey who will play as long as its not too long winded, (monopoly - zzz)

(So between 2-4 players aged 9 to well old)

Also, it will need to have not too many small pieces to lose inside the van.

Help would be much appreciated. (Oh - and TGV have to have it!)

Tom

Hi Tom,

When Debbie and I do the holiday thang we take card games and his one is cracking for the kids and teaches them heaps (via back door so they don't notice they are learnin): -

Bohnanza

It is all about planting Beans and winning the game through harvesting and selling them. Not sure if Steve stocks it?

If you want a aboard game that is always different to play Settlers is another good game and fairly easy to keep all bits together. Again a great game for the kids as it teaches them how to plan ahead and resource management.

This link is to the travel edition that I have not played but might be better than this one?

This link is the original and I think Steve stocks it?

Both of these are female friendly in that it does not require you to kill anything and does not deal with war.

The other themed game that you might enjoy if you like railways and maps of Europe / America is Ticket to Ride which is a cracking game of building railway lines. Can be played as card game which is fun and we have.

I hope you have a cracking time on holiday and get something that the kids and your better half really enjoy...

Board Games Geek also has searches that you can use to look at other highly rated games

I can recommend Fluxx, specifically Zombie Fluxx, but Fluxx 4.0 is good and Monty Python Fluxx is fun if you know Monty Python stuff.

Chrononauts is another good card game with a quick tour of modern history thrown in. Both are card games from Looney Labs currently in stock at the Vault.

Hi Tom,

Both the previous recomendations are both good, card games are excellent due to the lack of space they take up, but may I add zooloretto and aquaretto as both are easy to learn and good for familys, and on the card game's line 'Guillotine' which is also fun and can be kept in a pocket. To further help you what are your kids into? You will find the basic games, monopoly, cluedo etc,. while ok for some just dont 'cut it' for gaming and family fun. Post back their interests and I'm sure theres a family game for all of you. (and cheap and space saving) Also If you find something you like, and I own a copy, I'll lend it to you while your away to save you money.

Kindest Regards,

Vesp.

Hiya Vespasian,

Many thanks for the kind offer.

My lads are into rugby, cubs/scouts, Runescape, Call of Duty, Halo, Warmachine, Warhammer, science, knights, (well anything with a sword), ninjitsu, 'Orrible History and they both like maths!

Basically, most sci-fi, fantasy, adventuring and lots of sword fighting!

I have seen the Ninja game but I think it's for two players only.

Advice welcome.

Cheers,

Tom.

PS Did you notice The Guanabatz are playing at the Roadmender in Septemberish?

Hi Tom.

Will get back to ya on the recomendations.

Yh I saw they were playing at Bedlam, my old bands playing too, and my cousin was due to play but they lost their bass player. Trouble is their still listed on flyer so I'm wondering how many others are listed who are now not playing! I quite fancy seeing the long tall texans so might pop down for that, but it aint cheap for the weekend so i'll see. You going down there then?

Kindest Regards,

Vesp.
