FYI my copy of Terra Mystica turned up today and I have decided to take that to my friends as I think it will have legs and be liked by the whole family, they like Settlers of Catan and should be up for this.

Hope the game goes down well. I enjoyed it last week and am very tempted to buy it myself! However I think it would always end up a two player game for me as its hard to progress from ticket to ride or pandemic games with my friends (or more often silly card games...)
If you want a lighter filler game I just read about http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_4/277-0134585-3553706?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=ugg-tect&sprefix=Ugg-,aps,320 ugg-tech. Plays up to 8 and looks like a laugh if adults have had a drink or kids are around.

I have a copy of the German version Argh-Techt (which came out a couple of years ago) I can dig it out if you fancy a borrow over the xmas period (or you could buy it if you like it)

Just a report on my 1st play of Terra Mystica with Newbies....

I can safely say not a quick game for those who have never played more than monopoly. The alcohol being drunk at the time did not help.

However we did complete the game and they enjoyed it.

I now know the board is red wine resistant after one player knocked / smashed a glass on the table we were playing on, which nearly bought the game to an end.

My wife asked me numerous questions at the end and she is keen to play it again, so that is good. Might try 2 player version this weekend.

I was thinking of playing it the follow on night, but as beer and curry involved I decided that we should give it a miss.

I made some mistakes in rule explanation but these did not ruin the game and we still had fun.

:)

I was knackered at end after answering the same questions over and over again as the players picked up the mechanisms. The players were all fairly competitive and were trying to work out best course of actions....
