Ok, was having a discussion the other day and the question came up, what in peoples opinion where the Top 5 movies based on superhero's/graphic novels. I realize this isn't everyone's cup of tea but I felt sure a good discussion would start up that was a bit more light-hearted on here, and if anyone has an opinion on these sort of things it's a bunch of geeks  (and I mean that in the nicest possible way :D ).

Anyway, these are my choices:

5) Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr was an inspired choice to play Stark and it superbly took one of Marvel's lesser known hero's and turned out a great no-holds barred superhero movie.

4) V for Vendetta - Dark, political and controversial at the time of it's release, from the writing genius of Alan Moore a great movie. Not to everyone's taste but I rate it highly.

3) Watchmen - Cool as you like and very loyal to the graphic novel. Awesome.

2) Avengers - With that many hero's in a film how could it fail? For all the real comic nerds out there the teaser of a film coming that will include the uber villain Thanos is mouth watering.

1) The Dark Knight - Heath Ledger, need I say anymore? Possibly the greatest Batman film that will EVER be made, it needs no other explanations as to it's position at the very top.

I look forward to other peoples choices.

Conan (the Arnie one) is the best for me.

liked Ironman and V for Vendetta. Dark knight is good but Heath is over rated in it due to his death imo. I agree he's very good but over rated in general.

The iron man series have got the balance right between hero action and sense of humour, great watching. The avengers just seemed like an extension.

Spider-Man was decent too.

The original Conan with Arnie is great (and the soundtrack is awesome), Superman was good (better than the current drivel) but Superman II was the best of the series (who can forget the immortal line " kneel before Zod" ).

Which Spider-man? 1, 2, 3 or the needless reboot?

In no particular order...

Hellboy (Del Toro and Ron Perlman... What's not to like?)
The Dark Knight (Obviously)
Unbreakable (From when Shalyman was still making decent films)
Batman (Keaton and Nicholson... What's not to like?)
The Incredibles (For sheer balls-out-superhero-joyousness)

... There you go! :D

Lee's Patented Online Line Reviews
Iron Man - Good start to the franchise.

V for Vendetta - 2 Hours of nothing happening.

Watchmen - Overrated film of an over rated comic

Avengers - Its my Favourite Marvel Film, but that's like saying My face is my favorite place to be punched.

The Dark Knight - Best Batman film although whilst Mr Ledgers performance was good I agree with Rayner that it was slightly overrated due to his death.

Conan - The only Hack'n'Slash film worth watching.

Classic Superman - Great in its day but VERY Dated

Spider-man - One Super Hero to rule them all.

Hellboy - Ron Pearlman cannot act, he just plays Ron Pearlman in everything and I don't like him.

Unbreakable - Not actually a film of a Comic although it is a great Comic book style movie.

Batman - Nicholson was fantastic, I never thought Ledger would be able to outperform him.

The Incredibles - Standard Pixar fare. Nothing special.

To this list I add...
Scott Pilgrim - Give me back the 2 hours of my life you owe me.

A top 5 is hard! A bottom 5 is much easier there are alot of films that are clearly not good but I haven't actively disliked as much as some of the ones I'd include!
Anyway in no particular order

5) Super:- Offbeat & extremely violent. None of the characters are particularly likable but it's like a scummier version of a green wetsuit wearing forum filter baiting character.

4) Hellboy - Can't argue with the first part of Lees review however I like Ron Perlman & I like Cthulhian inspired stuff so it's ok in my book.

3) The Crow - One of my favourite films as a teenager with a amazing soundtrack.

2) Spiderman 2 - I'm not a massive fan of Tobey Maguire but Alfred Molina's Doc Ock is great. Pathos galore and I've always liked Spider-man stories where he's pushed beyond his limits but carries on regardless. (The car/bridge sequence in Amazing Spider-man is also a great example)

1) Avengers Assemble - An obvious choice but as a huge Marvel fan i loved every second of it. Just the thought of The Hulk's "I'm always angry" sequence makes me grin.

There are parts of other movies as well that I think are great.
Thomas Jane as The Punisher is good it's just a shame about Travolta etc. His self financed short "Dirty Laundry" is great and really makes me want another Jane Led Punisher movie that will hopefully be consistently good.

I like the first part of Daredevil, I think it shows the side of street level superheroes that is often neglected. After beating up a bar of thugs he heads home and as he's taking his costume off his body is a network of scars and bruises, he pulls out a loose tooth and goes to sleep chewing painkillers.

I like anything i can just look at without engaging my brain, in the respects all of the aforementioned superhero movies tick that box.

I really like incredibles superheroes unrestricted by physics or CGI constraints ... whats not to love.

Avengers .... Puny god ... to see my son fall about laughing everytime that bit is on is worth the admission fee alone. Also "I'm not in a gaming mood" has made it into our general vocabulary now :)

Spiderman... Anything with Kirstin Dunst in is a win in my book also.. story what story, Mary Jane is on screen :D

Whilest essentially true's no worse than Bruce "I carry things on my belt" Wayne or Frank "I shoot things alot with varying calibre weapons" Castle.
Plus he can totally tell if your lying by listening to your heartbeat which is more than Hawkeye can manage!
