Wasn't that one of the places that was looked at when the shop closed?
Assuming that it is; it was too small then, has it changed?

I dont think the hideout was open when the shop shut.

Evergreen was open then.

iirc ? ERM............ :D

Price is under negotiation. Have asked about space, tables etc. Your right Darrell we did look at evergreen and they would only give us one small room I think.

Hideout, we can have the whole thing front to back, would be a sort out the first couple of nights to see what fits where.

Subs price should really be determined by taking the cost of the venue per night and dividing it by the number of people who normally go to the club each week. That way you know that the club can sustain itself.

Whats going to happen with the kids club? i attend every week even during the blood bowl off season when there can be as few as 4 adults. Is the hideout really going to be happy opening up for the evening for 4 people? Is the solution to really move when weve been quite happy for the last year or so at the pheonix, shouldnt we just make our position clear to the pheonix's management and see how they could help/fix it before we go jumping ship? Its only going to take one visit during this so called youth club for them to see our problem! I know we dont currently pay for the little room, however we also dont pay to be blasted out by awful music/banging on the walls, and i certainly dont need to listen to chavs calling each other blood, thinking their gangsta and trying to disrupt our enjoyment!

I think it depends really, I'm sure there are enough tables.

As far as tabletop sized surfaces, we would probably need to try and negotiate the storage of some boards.

I think that, whilst the Pheonix centre is alright there is still an issue that there isn't enough table space for tabletop games most weeks.

Sure, we have the small room when the rpg dudes aren't using it, but aside from that we have to use a precarious table tennis table that is often locked away

That would be the table tennis table we don't hire and have no right of access to? (Yes, I have used it too.)

What will happen to the kids' club? Undecided yet, but I cannot make any weekday other than Wednesday.

My only real problem with the Phoenix is that we are barely covering costs and we are only able to do that because we routinely pay late. But I'm not a war gamer and I role play elsewhere these days. The youth club hasn't been a problem until last week when they decided to play their music at the level they did all night. I am entirely opposed to asking the Phoenix to shut them down because I'd rather the kids were in a place like the Phoenix socialising and learning how to be people than out on the streets learning how to hate people.

If people are happy to pay increased subs then my problem goes away. If the Phoenix reduced our rate then my problem would also go away.

My concern with the Hideout is that they have a smiley face in their sign and I worry about the business sense of somebody who decided that what Sheaf Street really needed was another cafe. Essentially, I am concerned for the longevity of it as a business and so would not want to commit to using it.

I have spoken to management at the Phoenix, and action is being taken re: music and the chaos that we have seen these last few weeks.

Going forward, the Boxers will be in the main hall until 7:30 and there is also talk of the youth club moving to Mondays - which would be ideal.

Re: monies - the raffle has provided a small buffer in the kitty (which is a good thing) but I agree all the above comments from those who attend that the fee is low for the service we offer.

I therefore propose that we up weekly subs to £3 per week from April 2nd 2014 (new financial year) Still really cheap - and I don't have to worry about 50p's in change etc.

Of course, if the venue doesn't shape up, then we may be forced to look elsewhere.

As I mentioned before, price should be determined by the number of regular attendees rather than arbitrarily raising the price every time the kitty runs low.

With the current average attendance & Blood Bowl fees then this should cover expenses. If things change, then we can revisit the numbers.
