I didn't do much gaming between those ages, myself. I played from 12 to 16, then from 23 or so onwards.

Of course, that was before games were invented. We wrote character sheets in the mud with sticks back then. We just had to imagine we were imagining things. And D&D was a sci-fi setting - all the metal armour and weapons were just a futuristic dream to the likes of us.
