Last night Bob, Mark, Jon and I played the first game of Frostgrave at the club and it's great fun. Yes, it's swingy and full of beer n pretzels fun, but a simple, fast and lethal activation system is cool - as is the spell system.

Like Bbowl, the meat is the team development. Groups (consisting of a wizard, an apprentice and a bunch of mercenaries) will pick up treasure, potions, magic weapons etc. between games and level their spell casters.

You can build a base, spend money to make it cooler (kennels to keep more war hounds anyone?)

The book is a tenner from Amazon, and you can use ANY models you like. Orc war band? Sure. Skaven clan? Yep! Fellowship of the Ring? That's what I'm running :)

We're doing it again next week if you want a look and a tutorial :)

Come play! It's what all the cool kids are doing.

Hi Jack!

Well, because each warband can level up independently, there doesn't have to be a formal campaign. As you play individual skirmishes, you will develop accordingly.

We're using the revised level-up system though - helps with balance and stops development being just shopping and full customisation.

Necromancer here too, could that be the power gamers choice?! And we've not even read the rules yet! :)

Having read a bunch of the rules I do wonder if enchanter is the way to go, you can basically arm everyone with magical weapons if that's your play style.

Quick question, can you empower spells cast out of game?

It says you don't take damage from failed spells cast out of game so by the same token I assume you can't empower spells out of game as that would mean taking damage. As a side note seal team 6 has been heavily reinforced
