As I've lost all my campaign notes and will be working largely from memory to rebuild the game, I thought it would be a good opportunity to change over to the Pathfinder system.

Pathfinder (PF) is essentially a D&D 3.5 variant - there are all the classes you're used to, each with some new features, lots of new feats, and a whole lot of simplified rules.

Converting from D&D to Pathfinder will usually make your character slightly more powerful: you'll gain a couple of feats, one of your ability scores will increase (depending on race).

Here's a document for the conversion process. You will have to sign up to download the file.

The whole set of Pathfinder rules is found here. (We will not be using any of the material from the Advanced section.)
The Vault sells the Core Rule Book (PF CRB), too.

Our next game is 12th May. Let me know if you run into any issues converting your character over to PF.

Just read through the document and as I understand it I need to make the following changes-

* +1 feat (5th level)
*+2 int
*Channel energy instead of rebuke/turn
* re do skills as im now in 12 instead of 10

Are we sticking to the "normal" xp levelling thing? which I believe is the medium one in pf?

You have two options for conversion:
  • direct conversion of your character: class for class, level for level, feat for feat (adding in the extras from PF) - this is probably best for single-class or dual-class characters
  • concept conversion: re-make your character in the same style, so that you end up with the roughly same set of abilities - this is probably best for multi-class characters

XP and level
Convert your character to the same level as you were.
Then subtract the minimum XP for that level from your current XP total. Add this number to the minimum XP for your level on the PF XP table (scroll down for the table) for "Medium" advancement.

Okay- I think I understand.

So Lanyssa's current xp is 14679.

14679-10,000(minimum xp for 5th level in d&d)=4679

15000(minimum for 5th in medium speed pf xp)+4679=19679

so 19679 is my new xp?

Alastair - what do you want to regarding Imad? Are you going to convert him, do you want me to do it, or should Steve maybe get a say in his character?

If you could convert him, Mr Beard, that'd be great.
Imad is a Cleric all the way, so just a straight conversion is required.

Having now converted Ben i've gone from being 800xp away from level 7, to being 7000xp away from level 7 :(

I have however managed to gain two new feats and boost all but one of my skills so it's not all bad.

I'll probably come and grab Imad's sheet at some point to make sure I get it all right.

Right. Imad is now all Pathfindered up.

Bit of a change to go from Turning to Channel Energy, but I think it's worked out quite well. Being 6th level means that the second Healing Domain power has now kicked in and all Cure spells will give an additional 50%! Decided to use the human +2 to an ability to improve Charisma purely to reduce the penalty to Channel Energy that he had before, although have stuck with Extra Channel to be able to channel a total of four times per day. Gained an extra feat, but had to spend it on Heavy Armor to be able to keep the armor.

Looking forward to taking the new and possibly improved Ben and Imad out for a spin.

Straff is likewise Pathfindered. It's a bit of a change and I might still tinker - unsure on additional feat choice.

Int + 2 is a bonus given the Int focus. This and the transmutator enhancement to a physical ability is quite a change + 2 Dex. Personally I like the hit point boost such that I don't have to fear death in quite as imminent a way - don't want to test that statement though.

Skills are a little different - what languages exist in Gaultria as I am struggling to fill the slots with useful ones? - Linguistics.

Everything seems right - looking forward to the next installment.

There are lots of languages in the setting. Here are some you may have encountered:
Elvish - elves have dialects, but all speak the same language on this continent
Dwarvish - similarly, there are dialects, but all dwarves speak dwarvish
Human languages
Ayreitic - the language of Ayre
Delbarran - the clunky language of the Delbarrian Theocracy
Ranelline - speech of the fjordland humans of the southern peninsular
Sirklinian - the classical language of learning
Terrasian - essentially a sister language of Gaultrian
Ty'itian - related to Ayreitic, the language of the Eastern empire
Vikenge - speech of the southern barbarians
Religious languages
    Celestial, Infernal, Abyssal
Others
Auran, Aquan, Ignan, Terran - the languages of elemental creatures
Draconic - the speach of dragons
Giantish - trolls and ogres speak this too
Goblinoid - spoken by all manner of vile humanoids as a common tongue
Oaakesh - the clipped battle language of orcs
Sylvan - the language of fey, spirits of the wild and plant creatures

Can somebody who has the book/SRD in front of them check the type of bonus granted by Bracers of Armour under Pathfinder? In 3.5 I seem to remember it was a deflection bonus, thus stacking with normal armour. Looking at the new Pathfinder character spreadsheet that I have here, it seems that BoA now grant an armour bonus thus rendering them useless to me :o

Never mind, turns out I can get to the Paizo website from here. Will have a fiddle with alternative effects for the bracers since they no longer contribute to my AC :(

No, I still have more questions, partly because there's nothing in the region of 1000gp that I want to consider for an to the now-useless Bracers, and partly because I was wondering how discrepancies in existing wondrous items are dealt with.

Under 3.5, Goggles of Minute Seeing cost 1250gp and granted a +5 bonus to search checks when looking for secret doors, etc. Under Pathfinder they now cost 2500gp and offer a +5 on Disable Device checks.

Eyes of the Eagle cost 2500gp in both 3.5 and Pathfinder and offer a +5 to Spot (3.5) or Perception (PF). Since I no longer want these Bracers, can I retroactively convert my Goggles and Bracers into a set of Eyes of the Eagle as part of the character conversion process?

BoA have always been an Armour bonus, and never stacked with real armour - to the best of my knowledge, only Rings ever offered deflection.

Since I'm not the DM, I can't really comment on the item swap. In all honesty, I can't see a lot in the sub-1000gp magic item list, either (without making custom items, anyway. The idea of a hood/hat/goggles that add +3 to Perception for the bargain price of 900gp is a nice one)
