I'm going to give out extra XP to players for playing their alignment well.

We're in a new, noisier venue, and that means subtle role-play is a little harder. ( Not that we've ever been particularly subtle, but hey...)
What I'm thinking of is based on a method used in a Vampire game I played in once. At the end of the session, you - the players - each tell me how you think you played an aspect of your alignment during the session. You get an XP award for each session where you demonstrate your character's alignment well.

Of course, you won't get a chance to do awesome role-playing each session, either - some sessions will just be dungeoneering or fighting or whatever. Don't worry: there'll be no penalty for not doing this, just a reward for doing it well.

(If you play against your alignment, we should look at changing your alignment. Alignment should be a tool for role play, not a restriction.)

The idea is to encourage everyone to keep playing their characters, despite the louder venue.

What do you think?

This sounds good to me also.

'How to role play your alignment' has always been one of the most difficult things to learn about the game, and even then people end up with different ideas on it. So another thing that could come out of this is that we all learn more from each other about what kinds of actions indicate certain alignments.

That just makes Neutrality either free XP all the time, or impossible to justify - depending on whether you view it is "must stick firmly to neutrality" or "anything goes, so long as it averages out".

And that's just the first of many problems with it.
