If the caster so chooses, the spell Continual Flame may produce light in the form of a supernatural glow, rather than the appearance of fire.

Aside from the appearance of the light, there is no change to the properties of the illumination, duration or uses of the spell. Any casters that could cast Continual Flame have the option to cast Continual Light instead - they are in fact the same spell, just with different appearances.

Can the colour of the light be varied also? Or is it assumed to be a diffuse yellow/white glow?

I think this is alright, I don't really see how it can be abused.

Good job Alastair!

I can totally see this being a massive fashion hit with young nobles. Get some of these, a bard or two, and someone to mass-cast Otto's Irresistible Dance. Congratulations, you've just invented the Rave.

Yup - cast Light on some twigs, and you've even got those crappy glow-sticks that don't last the night.

And get a wizard VJ to cast abstract Silent Images on the walls.

No problem. Some of the Estonian folk music I've heard is like acoustic hardcore techno, to be sure.

I think the idea of an invisible kind of light that makes white things and certain flowers glow isn't very likely to be general knowledge in most D&D multiverses.
At least a Knowledge (Arcana) or equivalent check would be needed for that...
