for cons game im a druid. When i hit 6th level i believe i wanna get a rhino.
my question is would it be tame enough to ride?
my opinion is that as its my companion and with a large saddle and lots of handle animal and ride skills it would be possible?

Yes, you can use your animal companion as a mount. You could get a rhino at 7th, not 6th, though.

You get a number of bonus tricks (table on p36 PHB), and you can train the animal with Handle Animal skill. The DC for training an animal for a purpose (in your case, to be a mount and presumably combat riding) is 20. This will take three weeks of game time.
In the meantime, the animal - being a "loyal companion that accompanies the druid" - will most likely submit to being ridden, but won't get into fights with you on board.

BTW: Don't put a saddle on a wild animal - that's not natural and druid-like, is it? You'll take a penalty to ride checks, but it'll have more role-play credit.

Role-play-wise, it will make most sense if your game is set where rhinos are common enough for the druid to know all about them. Otherwise, go for a Dire Wolf, or Dire Boar.

Do Rhinos have a charisma score higher than 6? If so...

GHOST RHINOS!

Sorry I must be leaving now before Pete hunts me down and kills me. :lots of love:

Meh, not my game, I'm not bothered! Let Khon deal with Jack's insanity inducing ghost mount ravings.

I've seen how Khon deals with Jack, it normally involves physical violence.

Should be good for a laugh.

awesome cheers dude.

nah ghosts are over rated blitzkreig!

oh and one final thingy. does it need to be three weeks of solid training or can it be over time and worked out as a cumulative week.

Three weeks solid would be mental - you get to spread it out over a while. The PHB has rules for it under the Handle Animal skill description (p75 PHB).

I'd house-rule that you have to do all the training within double the allotted time (six weeks, in this case), cause otherwise the animal forgets.

What everyone else said, with a few extra bits:

1) Rhinos would need an Exotic saddle, which costs a bit more than a normal one.

2) Rhinos have a charisma of 2. You could always cast Awaken on it, but that's a 5th level spell, and the suddenly sentient rhino (gifted with 3d6 intelligence and 3d6 charisma) will probably object to you murdering it just so you can ride a ghost into battle.

So let me get this straight....

IF....

Khon is running a Savanna friendly campaign, (not the female porn star for clarity), which allows Druids to ride Rhinos....

...there are rule sin the PHB for this and he would be on penalties to ride whilst wearing a saddle unless it was an exotic saddle (which is probably more suited to Savanna the female porn star)....

......and the house rule would involve training it within a six week period.....

.....ARE YOU LOT SERIOUS!!!! IS IT JUST ME OR HAS THE WHOLE WORLD GONE STARK RAVING BONKERS????!!!!

PMSL!!!!

  :?   :P :x :? :) :( :lots of love: 8) :D :D :D :D :?: :?: :!: :!:
