D.R. 1363 Eleint 11

An ancient ruin has been unearthered close to the village of Gladenford. The ruin was discovered by a local forester called Gerhadt, whilst seeking new sources of timber. Upon his return, he went in the Green Stag inn and invited the entire village to an all-expenses paid party to celebrate his success. Obviously, the Green Stag was completely full that night, and not a single person left the inn hungry (or sober!!!). Those who were able to report the happenings of that evening despite their indulgences, told that even after Gerhardt had paid the bill in full, he was still heavily laden with gold.

A couple of days after the festivities, it is reported that Gerhardt returned to the forest and presumably his recently discovered treaasure trove. He has not been seen or heard from since, and that was 2 tendays ago.

A dispatch rider arrived in Loudwater today with grave news. Banditry is on the increase in the land west of Loudwater, seriously threatening the overland trade to Secomber, Daggerford, Waterdeep and beyond. No witnesses to the atrocities have been found alive, only the remains of caravans are found - the occassional burnt out wagon and disgarded items.

The raiders seem to strike randomly and with impunity. Once the caravan has been hit, the raiders seem to head back toward the High Forest and attempts to track the miscreants have so far proved fruitless.

As the nights get darker and the Autumn equinox approaches, folks living along the edge of the High Forest are reporting more sightings of Drow, a situation which is causing much panic in the Forest Marches. Local lords have requested aid in verifying the veracity of these tales....

Young bravos from the village of Gladenford and surrounds have taken to forming 'Adventuring Campanies' and are setting of into the High Forest seeking Gerhadt and his treasure.....not necessarily in that order. To date, two of these 'Adventuring Companies', totalling some 11 peasants aged between 13 and 17 have gone into the forest on Gerhardts' trail and have failed to return.
