You may add journeymen to take your roster up to 11 players. Tick the journeyman option on level10 when you hire them. This way you don't get charged for them.

You also have to manually unhire/fire them from the roster if you don't hire them afterwards and you get normal player numbers up again for your next match - EG: You are down to 9 available players so can get 2 Journeymen to bring you up to the 11-player team minimum. After that match, if you don't hire the Journeymen and not lose any other players as casualies, you will have to remove the Journeymen from the roster as the missing two plyers who return will take your team number back up to 11.

Technically due to the website process, if you're consistently down players, a specific Journeyman could remain on the roster for several consecutive matches, and the Level10 site would keep tallying up any SPPs they earnt all the while before you decided to take the plunge and buy them in as normal linemen players. However, this is a no-no rules wise as a Journeyman will only retain the SPPs earnt in the match they just played and lose them if you don't hire them afterwards.
