I played Lee....first game of the season... I won , yes I'm great we all know.
But more intrestingly than that I noticed that Lee had colour coded the rims of his bases to make it easier for his opponent to keep track of what type of player each one was.
Now I know that alot of players are using proxy or not using GW minis for the game so this Idea really helps to keep tabs on what player is what. I realised my own team would be difficult to keep track with the bases all black as they are now.
What I am suggesting is that players follow Lees lead and do the same, even following his colour coding system I have added a few as Lee hasn't got them in his team.

Linemen-Black
Blockers-Red
Throwers -Orange
Catchers/Runners -Green
Blitzers -Blue
Other- Purple
Special-Pink
Star Players- White

Some players are not obvious which catorgorys they fit into so for those that arn't I have listed below where I thought each one should got, please post if you see any problems or have a way to improve the system.

Linemen- Beastmen, Hobgoblin, Halfling, Skeleton, Skink, Zombie, Rotter, Snotling
Blockers- Chaos Warrior, Tomb Guard, Saurus, Flesh Golem, Nurgle Warrior, Mummy, Vampire
Blitzers - Blitz-ra, Wight, Beserkers, Wardancers.
Throwers- Throw-ra
Catcher/Runners- Ghoul, Gutter runner
Other- Bull Centaurs, Witch Elf, Troll Slayer, Werewolf, Ulfwerenar, Prestigor
Special- Assassin, Special Weapons

Wardancers to add somewhere.

Also, what is the diffference between "Other" and "Special"?

Oh no....

More confusion for old guy Steve. Not only do I have to try and remember all these new fandangled rules its now new base colours..........

Only joking. Its a very good idea. In the dungeon bowl box in the SPAM LINK there are some coloured rings to go on the smaller BB bases in that set.

I think it would be a good idea to agree the colours for bases asap and ask players to use them.

It is something I was going to do any way as the mummy's and skeletons are very similar.

As my bases are already painted I think we should use the colours listed in Ragnars first post. That way I dont need to change them.

Ha ha ha ha ha, ok sounds good to me.

Linemen-Black
Blockers-Red
Throwers -Orange
Catchers/Runners -Green
Blitzers -Blue
Other- Purple
Special-Pink
Star Players- White

Just need to discuss if there is a difference between Other and special. We can then post acordingly.

Take care

Please can you remove the colours from your first post in this thread just so people dont accidentally paint there bases the wrong colours.

Thanks

Ok I had missed listing the Blizters types which I have now done.
Yeah special and other, Its a bit bent that some teams have to have players of two different types with the same colours
ie orcs, Linemen and Goblins- black
Should gobbos be as runners ?- green?

for the same reason I crated special, mainly for special weapons in a gobbo team( but they could use purple as they would't have that colour featured in there team anywhere.)

Dark elves are the biggest problem as they have
Linemen-black
Blitzers - blue
Runner - green
witch elf - purple
Assassins -?

I created special to cover it?
Any ideas as to how to resolve the problem

Just to be marginally awkward, this is an idea that's been around for many years, you will most likely find it in 'ring basing' or 'ring coding' on sites like talkbloodbowl or whatever it's called post GW lawyer purge. It's a great idea in many respects, 2 niggles though:
- The longer established colours aren't the same as posted here, although I can't remember them off the top of my head, which isn't a huge deal, but would mean having painted your bases they'd quite possibly then be out of line with someone's at a tournament. From memory - blitzers = red, catchers = yellow... can't remember rest, l'men - green as most people do bases grass green.

- An issue in my opinion - I really dislike how it looks on many models. If you've done a nice base, plastering all of it bright red can rather kill the aesthetic. A compromise of maybe the players number on the base side in the right colour could work.

There are also quite a few teams who really don't need it - lizardmen, c.dwarves, ogres, chaos, etc. or at least you hope the proxies aren't so obscure that you can't pick two very distinctive positional player types apart e.g. hobgoblin vs Bull centaur...

Overall a very useful idea, but would prefer it not to be obligatory where model differences are already very clear.

Its not obligatory is a suggested idea.
I know that the idea has been around for ages and to be fair I don't need it as I am capable of remembering what is what. I just think its good for newer people so they can Identify players easily instead of having the rules and the mass of players that sort of look the same to worry about.

I totally agree with the look, that is why I haven't done it myself yet and realise that some teams don't need it. I just sorted it that way for compleats sake.
I didn't realise that there was a universal colour code and I'm not suprised, I just made a code to fit in with Lee's team which he had already done.

I agree, very useful for new coaches, and anyone playing against some of ye olde teams in particular where players have a couple of extra spikes or something to differentiate would certainly appreciate it!
I'll have a sniff about and see if I can find the 'conventional' colours used.

Steve already found the "Conventional" colours but ultimatly I guess the colours are kind of irrelivant as long as they are different for different types of player in your team. As this is optional anyway people can feel free to either adopt it, or not.

The colours listed above are the colours that I have used already and I wont be repainting my bases to a different set of colours regardless of whether "Conventional" colours are posted or not, simply because I dislike painting as it is without having to repaint things that I have already painted.

Repainting is no probs for me.
I'm happy to follow Lees scheme as I am unlikly to be playing in the big leagues as I have little intrest in it. You get little trash talk on that side of the fence and what is blood bowl with out trash talk.....NOTHING!

I've given this a go if only for the fact that my team are now all black having only been primed (but at least they have some paint on them now!) so having he colours should help to identify the different players at a glance. (And they're finally numbered too :D )

You'll never be champion if you don't get your team painted ;)!

BUMP

I know its probably hypocritical as my painting which is slow anyway has stalled with lack of a hobby desk in my new house. Theres a lot of games I have played where the models look great but have no idea what they are.

When I first joined the league last year I got pointed to this post and I love everything about it and the first thing I did on my team was painted the bases the colours in the OP. So people could tell a blitzer, witchelf, lineman, runner at a glance or at least that one model was inherently different from the other.

With a new comissioner and new players I wondered if any other players had seen this and their thoughts on it?

*waits for some "leave the comissioner alone comment"* :) j/k
