As "Some" people want to know how big the divisions are going to be before they decide whether to keep or retire their team here is something to help you choose.

EDIT:
The division sizes at each player threshold have been chosen to allow for the maximum number of games to take place in a 10 round (2 week window) period with priority to getting the maximum number of games given to the teams in the higher divisions.

The higher divisions will always operate on a play each other twice basis if this is possible before resorting to a play each other once system and finally to a bye round system.

A division of 7 teams where you only play each other once? That sounds pants.

Why not put people who have either dropped out before mid-season or have missed the most games as non-priority, and they only get in if convenient for divisional sizes?

Edit: Although this looks unlikely with 24 sign-ups. :lots of love:

I agree but with Division sizes of 7 only cropping up when we have 7/13/14/19 players I would rather everyone get to play even if it does mean a shorter season for the affected division, want to play more games, maintain your position in a higher Division ;).

The season would be the same length you would just have one round of "Bye" where you didnt play anyone.

Why have 11's at all for 26/27/28/29?

26: 6,5,5,5,5 - the top division still play 10 games
27: 6,6,5,5,5 - the top two divisions still play 10 games
28: 6,6,6,5,5 - the top three divisions play 10 games
29: 6,6,6,6,5 - the top four divisions play 10 games

And you still get the rivalries that build up over home/away fixtures. At worst you only ever get a pair of bye weeks vs the same (non-existant) opponent which the bottom divisions are almost always going to have anyway.

If you must have 11's can you make them the lowest divisions where rivalries have had less time to establish?

I do like talon bays idea on this I feel an 11 man division may make "quiting" or no shows very easy and although we have to have appeal for everyone it does have an impact on more of the "fun" things the league offers such as awards and banter.

very good idea Gary i really like that setup. far more important that we have smaller top leagues otherwise people in the lower half of the table may feel they are making no progression. smaller league make for tighter finishes in the season keeps the suspense. i gues that applies to all the divisions but definately more important for division 1.

The reasoning is purely to have the most games possible with the fewest bye rounds.

11 in division 1 doesn't appeal to me in the least I must say; I understand your reasoning, but having nearly half the league teams in division 1 doesn't exaclty make it aspirational.

I always tried to make div 1 have 6 teams if possible for exactly that reason however I also felt that it was important that div 1 have the most chance of having a full 10 games.
