Scrabbling around in the man cupboard recently looking for long eBayed nuggets of Rogue Trader goodness I came across the Dark Vengeance boxset I bought last year (or was it the year before? :? ). As well as lots of half painted Dark Angels, a few broken Cultists and a sorry looking Hellbrute I found the Chaos Space Marine Codex... Hence the question above. Which Traitor Legion to collect? Yes. Despite resisting on and off I've yet again fallen under the GeeDub'yuh curse and I wants a Chaos Marine army. And I wants it now! But... Before I can order loads of overpriced tut I need to decide on a plan of action. Suggestions please! :D :lots of love:

Assuming you don't fancy doing a 30k heresy force, in a purely gamey sense I have heard great things about the new Crimson Slaughter codex which apparently is great.

For me though it's all about the Nurgle goodness. I've always fancied a warband of The Cleaved

Is that just the Dark Vengeance CSM stuff Tom?

Same here, though the 'gamey' side of things doesn't float my boat as much as I very rarely actually game with anything I end up collecting! I'd love to do a Heresy-era Legion but the cost alone made me gag a little! :? :lots of love:

I'm leaning towards a Typhus cult myself! :lots of love:

40k only at the moment as Forge World is the 'little men' equivalent of crack cocaine!

If I were to do Alphas it would be using Space Marine models with only a few chaos pieces added... I remember seeing an amazing Alpha Legion where the guy had basically painted them up to look almost like Ultramarines, only the symbols were upside down or had dragon heads painted onto the tips!

The Bearers of the Word! - Religious fanatics. I only read a few of the Horus Heresy novels, but did Erebus get all the blame for starting it?

I think that was the implication. Though in terms of background I prefer the Legions that had their own, more personal reasons for turning such as the Alpha Legion and the Night Lords.

I've never been a big csm fan. The only ones that stood out as one to collect was thousand sons as i remember the models being really individual and amazing colours. To be fair i liked some of the nurgle stuff too.

If your going 40k and using the Dark Vengeance stuff I think your choice comes down to these:

Word Bearers or Black Legion.

So, you can either have the main instigators of the Heresy where Dark Apostle's actually don't seem out of place, lots of Deamons (yes, i'm a 4th Edition Codex fan) and you have uber cool characters fron the legions past such as Lorgar, Erebus and Kor Phaeron.

Or you can have the puppets of the whole Heresy who were used by the Bearers to please their new gods.

All the other legions are cool but the models you'll be using are better suited to these two imo.

Stupid 40k chatter anyway, dont you know how hard i'm trying to avoid blowing at least £50 on a 5 man Forgeworld MKII Armour Iron Warrior Squad complete with Heresy style weaponry.

Btw, have you seen the new Salamanders squad they do?

ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Make it stop.................please.

I'm not really that sold on the Dark Vengeance minis if I'm honest as of all things I think they look a little too ornate! Like you say Gazza I think the miniatures from the box set limit you in your choice of Legion.

As for the Forge World stuff... :?

I'm leaning towards building a small army slowly. Possibly buying a unit a month. That should give me time to put it together and at least prime and basecoat it. At the moment I'm trying to resist doing Thousand Sons by buying the forge world squads and adding the GW resin heads. £25 odd quid for the bodies, £11 for the bolters and another £9 for the heads... £45 for a basic five man squad!
