All you old blokes bangin' on about what you did in the war ("look at me driving my tank" - Gazza, etc) caused me to have a quick look in what used to be my 'Little-men-hiding-from-the-wife-place' for any left-over projects... And look what I found!

They're 15mm German SS (some in Zeltbahns).

Now, back in the days before Blood Bowl and Nerd Club membership and to break up the monotony of flipping between collecting (and never playing with) Warhammer 40K and Confrontation armies I had a quick dabble with Flames of War. I went as far as buying a couple of books and joining the forum, then I made a huge mistake... I bought some of the miniatures! :? Some of these monstrosities still reside in the box these fella's came from. The huge wave of disappointment at the quality of the casts and the shocking state of the resin parts of the Stugs I bought was enough to put me off. The box has been sitting in my airing cupboard ever since...

I also appear to have bought some bits from Peter Pig at some point. These and the few FOW minis I've managed to salvage are now, after a most productive afternoon of sorting, filing and bagging, waiting to be glued to 1p and 2p coins (I'm keeping it old school with this project!). I've checked the interwebs and there seems to be some excitement surrounding 15mm Bolt Action games, though I may go down the Weird World War/Dust route and throw a few Mechs in the mix!

I've got two or three 'squads', some mortars and machine guns and enough bits to put together one half decent looking Stug. Originally I wanted to do a 'Fall of Berlin' style force so if I can get these painted up I may try and pick up some Volkssturm and militia type minis.

No updates... Don't worry, the project hasn't stalled already! In order to remain 'enthused' I've decide to dig out some film-based inspiration (one serious, one ever-so-very-so-not-so!).

Just need to get up the loft and dig out my copy of Anthony Beevors 'Berlin' and I'm all set! 8)

On a more serious note though. No modelling updates... This is the reason.

Proper 'on one' now about this project (apologies to the Warmahordes guys). Back when I originally planned on doing this the idea was to have a small German Waffen-SS force (which I have) backed up with Volkssturm (which I don't have - I've seen some great looking militia/partizan figures in 15mm though) and as a 'centre-piece' a Tiger II painted up as belonging to either Georg Diers or Karl-Hienze Turk.

'Tis indeed! Beevors 'Berlin' is also excellent, I originally only read it because I'd read and enjoyed his 'Stalingrad'. Though I think now 'Berlin' is my favourite of the two. I think that's were I read about Georg Dries and the Tiger parked outside the Riechstag. Could be wrong though! :?

I've got a book I won at a flames of war tourny, it's the diaries of a German infantryman on the eastern front. It was ok but I only got about a third of the way through it because I've a mountain of books to read and I dropped out of the flames of war scene largely.

I can bring it along to the club if anyone would like it (it's just gathering dust ATM).

Pretty sure it's this one: http://www.amazon.com/Eastern-Inferno-J ... 1935149474
