As part of my painting challenge I've set the gauntlet for painting my Deathwatch Kill-team in 2 weeks.
I've chosen Deathwatch as for me they are the archetypical Kill-team. Small squad of elite men tasked with surgical removal of an specific threat (plus it means I can paint a dude from each chapter!)
As I think with all Marine kill-teams numbers are going to be an issue to begin as I'm looking at a 10 man basic team without anything especially fancy. Of the things I couldn't find the points for Kill marines, black Shields, assault marines, apothecary etc the only one I really regret from a gaming side of things is the apothecary as his 'feel no pain' save could prove to be very useful.
List wise it's stands at this:-
Elites
Deathwatch Sergeant - Chainsword, Hellfire rounds, Vengeance Rounds, Ultramarine Tactics.
Core
1 x Deathwatch Marine - Space Wolf tactics
1x Deathwatch Marine - Imperial Fist Tactics
1 x Deathwatch Marine - Dark Angel Tactics
1 x Deathwatch Marine - Black Templar Tactics
1 x Deathwatch Marine + special weapon (melta, plasma or grav gun haven't decided yet) - White Scar Tactics
1 x Deathwatch Marine - Imperial Fists (Crimson Fists) Tactics
1 x Deathwatch Marine - Iron Hands Tactics
1 x Deathwatch Marine - Raven Guard Tactics
Special
1 x Deathwatch Veteran - Heavy Flamer, Salamander Tactics.

The Whitescar will probably become a Blood Angel once I've got the bits but aside from that Version 1 of the list is locked in!
So on with the painting!!

Plus a photo I've already shared of the Space Wolf, Salamander and Imperial Fist marines.

Looking good mate, we will be using the optional injury rules which means as soon as a model loses its last wound, the player who inflicted the wound rolls a d6 to determine the extent of its targets injuries. 1-2 knocked down 3-4 stunned 5-6 out of action. If a model suffers several wounds at the same time roll a dice for each wound and apply the highest result.
A model that is just knocked down may crawl away 3" during the movement phase and gets a chance to stand up the following turn but halves movement and has its initiative lowered to 1 for the rest of that turn. Stunned models spend 1 turn as stunned then are treated as knocked down the following turn. But if any enemy model allocates a wound to a knocked down model or any attack to a stunned model then they are taken out of action.
Its not as good as feel no pain but its better than nothing! It also forces opponents to make sure they kill things outright or they could come back to bite them

What happens with out of action? 3-6 the medic fixes up your wounds and your ready for the next outting. 1-2 roll on the Injury table.

I can create an injury table ;)

Using the heralds of ruin injury charts
Core models(fodder) d6
1: dead
2:winded halves initiative for next game
3-6:full recovery

Specialist and leader models:
1: in serious trouble roll d6 again
1-2 dead
3-4 major injury roll again (1-2: -1T 3-4: -1 A 5-6: -1 Ld)
5-6 minor injury roll again (1: -1S 2-3: -1BS 4-5: -1 WS 6: -1I)
2: beaten up roll d6 again
1:madness gains rage and fearless
2-3: battered and bruised movement halved for next game
4-6: winded initiative halved for next battle
3-6: full recovery.

So although your force may get wiped out they have a good chance of surviving to fight another day.but then theres also a chance one of your injured players may get captured and held ransom.(if only we could do that in bloodbowl :lots of love: )

Man we need to be losing eyes and legs and bringing bionics in as repairs, scares cause fear. Unconscious for periods, recurring war wounds......

Thanks dude, I've always loved the fluff surrounding the Deathwatch. I've ordered some bases to reflect their xeno killing duties.
To keep up with my painting challenge I've slapped some paint on the Raven Guard Marine. When creating each marine I've tried to add alittle to the model that helps represent their chapter. In the case of the Raven Guard the most obvious thing was to give him the Mk6 Corvus Armour, then to represent his chapter traits and tactics (stealth and strike from shadows) I've added silencers to his bolt gun and bolt pistol.
Lastly I neglected to notice I lacked a decal for his chapter so while I sort that out I've done a rough freehand chapter badge as well.

The modelling opportunities of this idea are immensely cool!

Love how you are embracing the modeling potential of kill team, the extra little bits are great!

Thanks man, I used to love that side of it with Necromunda! Modelling weapons and injuries onto stuff. Having a half blind, half crippled Heavy that I held onto because he'd been in the gang since the start.

On the kill-team front I've started on the Black Templar. To suit the chapter I would have liked to give him a chainsword but as a standard Kill-team Marine he can't have one! I'm still toying with at least adding him a large sword. As it is I've gone with a more medieval styled helmet and a drum mag as everything looks cooler with a drum mag!

Looking good mate, if he survives a couple of battles or completes a secondary mission you might be able to earn him that chainsword, still not sure whether to give experience/requisition points to the players helping me playtest on wednesday. Quite tempted just to see how it effects things and with the heralds of ruin 'underdog' mechanic it will soon even things back out!

Painting continues apace but I started monkeying with my list alittle and have changed my Sergeant who was alittle too vanilla (ultrasmurf with a chainsword) so with a bit of rejigging I present Brother Sergeant Berith Elagor of the Fleshtearers Chapter armed with his signature weapon a Krixian Chainglaive. I'll be strapping a bolt gun to him once I find my green stuff for the actual strap and then it's onto the painting table! Image
