I was supposed to be doing something more important but really don't fancy it so putting together a street bowl pitch seemed much higher priority :)

Progress so far:

I'm at the point now where I need to fill the gaps between tiles but also make sure the bounds of the squares stay obvious, any advice from those that have built pitches before?

Looking good Gary.

I'd mix up some mortar using sand and PVA then wipe over with a damp cloth before that drys. (pressing the "grout" into the gaps and wiping the tiles as you go.

(I would think this is like a real life patio but I am really no good at DIY)

If you were going for a astrogranite look, you could add some grey paint to the mix, or a gray grout would work (although harder to clean off)

Thanks to Paul and a box full of his dungeon casting leftovers I found some bits and pieces to add little highlights after using a grout to do the edges.

I tried using a sand/pva mix for between the tiles but the pva dries too thin, then tried some coarser stones and had some real hassle levelling them off beneath the tile level. Think I'm nearly there though, just need to:
* let things dry
* glue down the decoration bits
* paint it all
* give the edges and between tiles a coat of sand
* work out what the circles of stones might actually be used for, too many sections for a turn counter

So, not really very near yet!

Looks great - love the progress.

BTW shouldn't it be 26 squares long?

I thought I'd make one side shorter so the home team has an advantage :)

That's just mean! I only counted once but I did then go get an actual board and line it up alongside because I realised I'd not done that, all was good thankfully :)

And we're done!

Came out darker than I planned but that was the varnishing step.

Finished just in time for Frostgrave to grab my imagination, from my reading so far it needs some work to get the long term game in order but there are some nice touches. I'd love to see what a decent campaign could do with these combat and development rules!

Looks fantastic. What size hirst art paving blocks are they? Tempted to try and knock something together prior to next season.

Frostgrave is ace, but looking at these for long term build-up options.

You'll need to ask the other Paul about the source for the tiles as I picked them up from him, I've a bunch left over and am seriously considering trying to do a four-way board :)

This one took enough time that I need a breather though, learnt so many things that I wouldn't do next time! Biggest one is not to use a sand and PVA glue mix to fill the spaces between tiles, the glue dries to almost nothing and all the bulk is lost and then you have to fill in over the top.

I think Stu's highlighted those house rules too, I thought the turn limit one would be more interesting if it was based on more monsters arriving (and getting really very silly quite quickly to force you to flee) so it feels less artificial (falling an inch short of getting off board with treasure because it's 5 turns rather than 6 for example) and also allows for more turns if the first few go by with little happening.
