Hi all,

It has been suggested that we use the new Battlefield Hobbies forums to arrange our games, as they have weekly threads like the ones here, and there is no point in having people in two different places trying to arrange games together.

That said, this has been our home for some time. What do people want to do? Please vote and leave comments / reasoned arguments below.

Thanks.

Makes sense IMO as then only one place to check. Does however make the use of this forum less likely unless blood bowl players want to keep it running?

The truth is that there will ultimately only be one forum.

Either the battlefield one will be used and this one will die or this one will be used and the battlefield one will die. There is not enough traffic here for both to live.

I spoke to Nobby when the shop opened and asked if he wanted to take over this forum and integrate it into his website and was told flatly "No".

I don't mind either way. Obviously the level10 site will exist outside of this forum so can continue to be used with no problems however there may well be a lot of history (as in rules clarrifications etc...) lost if/when this forum is abandoned.

As a side note, anything you post on the Battlefield Hobbies forum is "Theirs"

I know that this may not bother you but it certainly bothers some people.

Not to put anyone/place down but since i have been playing in the league we have already had 3 different venues and the league has still lived on... albeit slightly smaller than before. my point is this forum hasn't changed, the league hasn't changed, the general gaming hasn't changed, role players haven't changed but there is nothing to stop the store or venue from changing /closing as all of the other venues have and if that does happen then we're looking at losing the forum all over again. if it isn't broke, don't fix it IMO.

Its just an issue of logistics. If you are pushing players (old and new) to two potential sites then you split the audience.

People are creatures of habit, like you say, but my thoughts are that the shop is the No.1 thing going to draw new boardgamers / bloodbowlers / wargamers into the hobby and potentially into our Wednesday night meets. It would be nice that they can integrate with us all in one place.

**ALSO: this is ONLY to relocate the Arrange Games thread each week. The bloodbowl banter / results etc. will remain on the Vaulters site.

Splitting the audience is not your issue. That's a problem for the venue.

I think Aaron makes a strong point. Venues come and go, the forums go beyond that.

Make new players come here rather than there.

But why?

If the shop went belly up, the group who usually play boardgames together would sort themselves out - most probably on a social media group like Facebook. Growth to this will come from the hub that is the shop.

The bloodbowlers still have here as a communal forum and for specifically that, they can be directed here. The league is a separate beast.

Arranging games should be done on BH's forum seeing as its there premises we all use, it's only polite.

Just to add a little flavour to the "No" - I did not feel it appropriate for the shop to take over a club forum. The Daventry Vaulters club has existed for a long time and has it's own place in the commuinty. BFH is a new shop forging its own way and has the luxury of DV's choosing us as their venue right now - for which we are very grateful. I spoke with GVS about the forum issue before responding to Lee and we both felt it would be the wrong thing to do.

If you want my two penneth I think the forum here is rich with information and should be continued. Amalgamating the Arrange Games is a choice thing that I will abstain from commenting on - but I can see the argument from both sides.

I hope that helps show the 'No' did have some background and was not borne out of any arrgance on our part!

Cheers

Nobby

So the votes are 3 For and 3 Against.

Anyone have anything else to say on this or at least want their vote heard?

I couldn't vote or comment previously, it was like this thread was locked.

I voted no though, I'd rather have one place to go for the group, don't mind which forum that is but keeping the banter and the game arranging together.

Well, its a close decision which probably means making the change will leave half of the people annoyed. So I'm just going to keep the status quo.

The only thing that will change is I'll post in both our and their forums about any planned gaming that I and the boardgame bunch have on.

NOTHING TO SEE HERE! MOVE ALONG!

I unlocked the thread again and moved it to "Site Feedback" no need to stop discussion, everyone is being civil with each other.

There is a 3rd option to the move or not question. If people want to use the BFH forum they to that, if they want to use this one then they do that. Eventually one forum or the other will become the favoured naturally.

If it is the case that this one gets little to no traffic then I will lock all of the forums and make it read only. The domain name is paid up for the next year so it will be around for that long as reference. After that I will back it up and close it down.
